Walsall Council is set to commission the report into the junction 10 project unveiled by Highways England last week.
They presented preferred options on the proposed shape of the roundabout featuring a pair of new four-lane bridges across the motorway and it was put out for public consultation.
Consultant architects Moore Environment has now provided extensive advice to the council on what areas need to be covered in the environmental impact assessment.
Council spokesman Ian Smart said: "The development on the junction itself is set to kick off in 2018.
"There will be lots of works leading up to then to support the scheme such as on surrounding roads."
The report will look at a whole host of topics to be analysed including the effect on air quality, cultural heritage, local nature reserves, visual surroundings, traffic noise, pedestrians and cyclists.
The junction has a capacity for around 6,500 vehicles an hour and the development would enable for an extra 2,500 to use the roundabout.
