A man purporting to be a rat-catcher approached a home in Park Farm Road in Pheasey around 9am on Tuesday claiming he had been sent to repair a fence and sort out a problem with rodents.

Upon entering the property he asked for £220 but left empty-handed after refusing to accept a cheque.

He was described as white, of medium build, aged between 35and 29 with an English accent.

About 11am a man called at a house in Darlaston offering a similar service but was asked to leave by the resident.

It is possible an accomplice was waiting in a black car.

Meanwhile, someone entered a pensioner's home in Brownhills uninvited around 12.45pm claiming he had been sent to repair a fence.

The man, who was white, with an Irish accent, around six feet tall, of stocky build, with brown hair and wearing grey sports clothing briefly searched the home but left empty handed.

Kevin Pitt, Walsall police and engagement and consultation officer, said: "Please remind your neighbours particularly those who are vulnerable or elderly not to open their door to strangers or unexpected visitors."
