From saloon to salon: Boozer becomes beauty lounge

Pints for perms and crisps for cuts - a former pub has been turned into a hair and beauty lounge.

GQ Hair Tanning and Beauty Lounge was opened in Wordsley last week by owner Andrew Price, following six months of renovation and refurbishment.

The Nags Head pub used to stand on the site of the lounge.

Mr Price, aged 42 from Wombourne, said opening his business has been the start of a new adventure.

"It feels fantastic (to open up the pub)" he said.

"I had been looking for 12 months for a decent sized shop.

"The pub wasn't doing anything and this estate is quite big and wasn't a barber shop close by.

"It is a new adventure we have got some really good qualified staff working for us.

"We have done tanning and beauty before but we have never done barber cutting and salon."

The shop features a beauty salon, a men's only barber section and a ladies section, with a reception in the middle.

The outside of the building has been left relatively untouched but the interior has been fully refurbished.

Andrew now has four fully qualified staff members working for him across the different sections.

He used to own a car valeting service in Wolverhampton for over a decade before opting to change his career.

He said: "I had owned a car wash for 11 years and I worked outside in the cold for most of the time.

"I got fed up of being outside and I wanted to set up a business. A good friend of mine is a hairdresser and they helped me start my business, I am hoping to make a good success of it."
