Adam Coleman and his friend Dean Lucas were reported missing more than a week ago after travelling from Canada to Mexico.

Mr Coleman's father Ian, who still lives in Kidderminster, has issued a heartfelt tribute to his 'adventurous' and 'fun-loving boy'.

Mr Lucas, left and Mr Coleman, right, went missing while driving through Mexico in a Chevrolet van

He said: "Adam was such an adrenaline junkie. He was a beautiful and free-spirited chap.

"We are trying to piece together the events which led up to this awful tragedy."

He added his son enjoyed surfing, snowboarding and travelling and became an Australian surf champion at the age of 22.

Adam Coleman's girlfriend Andrea Gomez provided one of his dreadlocks for DNA testing

Meanwhile, Adam's sister Sarah Cattermole wrote on Facebook: "There are a few things in life that scare me, one is losing a sibling.

"I just wish this was one big dream that I was going to wake up from."

Mr Coleman, aged 33, grew up in Cookley near Kidderminster and moved to Australia when he was six.

Prosecutors in the Mexican state of Sinaloa have confirmed they are performing forensic tests on the two badly burned bodies as part of the hunt for the missing men.

Mr Coleman and Mr Lucas, also 33, failed to arrive as planned on November 21 in the city of Guadalajara where they were due to meet up with the former's girlfriend Andrea Gomez. The pair, who went to college together, were were last seen alive on November 20.

Mr Lucas's long-term girlfriend Miss Gomez has been helping authorities with the identification process.

Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has released a statement on behalf of the families of both men.

It said: "The families and partners are aware the van in which they were travelling has been located by Mexican authorities and that a tragic event has occurred.

"The families hold deep fears for the safety of their sons but stress that they are still waiting for details to be confirmed.

The bodies were so badly burned that only tests like DNA or dental records could identify them

"Members of Dean and Adam's families will be travelling to Mexico in the coming days and working with Australian consular officials and Mexican authorities.

"We ask for privacy during this enormously difficult time."

Adam ran his own landscape gardening and pest control businesses.

His brother Danny, who also still lives in Kidderminster, said: "Adam is such an amazing guy who lives life to the full and everyone who has ever met him loves him."

Adam's mother Sherree, 53, has travelled over to Mexico with her son's dental records.
