Council bosses shelled out more than £2,000 to make repairs to fencing at the site off Newton Road, West Bromwich.

But travellers got through access gates again overnight Sunday into Monday at the parking area by Churchfields playing fields

Around 20 caravans were parked up on the parking area next to All Saints Church yesterday.

Football matches may have to be cancelled at the fields this weekend, after games were called off over November 7 and 8 because of the previous break in.

Sandwell councillor Paul Moore, who is regeneration and economic investment, tweeted: "Reports that travellers are currently committing criminal damage to access Churchfield Playing Fields.

"It's not fair on kids who may miss out on their football matches at the weekend."
