49 arrested in online sex predator blitz

Almost 50 people have been arrested as part of the Staffordshire Police crackdown on people possessing and distributing indecent images of children.

The force launched Operation Safenet in July in a bid to catch online sex predators who target children.

So far 71 children have been removed from harm's way while on Friday officers arrested their 49th suspect as part of the ongoing work.

The 63-year-old man from Stoke was arrested on suspicion of possessing and distributing indecent image and released on police bail.

A 24-year-old man from Stafford arrested in July is set to appear at Cannock Magistrates Court on November 18.

Last month the officers arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of possession of indecent images of children and released the man on police bail whilst the investigation continues.
