Pensioner left critical after Great Barr lorry collision

A pensioner is in a critical condition after being hit by a lorry in Great Barr.

The pedestrian, a local woman aged 64, was left seriously injured after the incident on Newton Road on Thursday morning.

She was taken to hospital with a head injury and multiple fractures and remains in the critical care unit.

The collision took place near the Scott Arms junction at around 10am.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Pc Stuart Thorpe said: "This happened at the Scott Arms shopping centre near to the Wilkinson store and there would have been many shoppers around at the time.

"I would like to hear from anyone who has not already spoken to a police officer to contact us so that we can establish how this lady came about her injuries."

The lorry driver has been spoken to and is co-operating fully with the investigation.

Any witnesses should contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101.
