Woman arrested after man, 77, is stabbed
An elderly man was found stabbed at an address in Burntwood today following a 999 call to police.
The attack on the 77-year-old at a house in Chorley Road is being described as a domestic-related incident.
A woman, aged 47, had left the scene before officers arrived just before 9.30am, sparking a police helicopter search. Officers on foot supported by the Staffordshire dog unit helped to scour the surrounding countryside, including Gentleshaw Common and Cannock Wood opposite the scene of the assault.
The woman was discovered just after 1pm at Chasewater Country Park, and arrested.
Police said the victim suffered several stab wounds. He was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where his condition is described as stable.
Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident. An investigation is now under way.
Chief Inspector Dave Garrett, of Staffordshire Police, said: "Police were called at about half past nine to reports of a stabbing.
"The offender had made off from the area when police arrived but after an extensive search of the area she was located and is now in police custody.
"The police helicopter was out helping officers with the search."
