Man arrested after pedestrian hit by car in Dudley dies
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a pedestrian was killed in Netherton.
Paramedics were called to the junction of Marriot Road and Cradley Road at 11.45pm on Friday to a 53-year-old in a critical condition.
He was found in the road near to an uninsured, abandoned car which had crashed into a billboard and fencing.
Passers-by had stopped and performed CPR on the man, but he was later confirmed dead at the scene.
A 19-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.
Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Collision Investigation Unit at West Midlands Police, said: "At this time we believe that the man was a pedestrian who was hit by the car, however I need to consider every possibility.
"Checks on the silver grey Seat Ibiza have revealed that the abandoned car was uninsured and unregistered.
"As part of the investigation the car has been seized for an extensive forensic analysis. We're also undertaking work to understand more about its history. With this in mind, it's vital that anyone who has recently used the car but wasn't involved in the fatal crash to get in touch.
"I'd also appeal directly to the person who was driving the car at the time to come forward. He or she is likely to be very shocked and this is a big secret to keep. They didn't to the right thing at the time but they can start now by calling me."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "When ambulance staff arrived they found passers-by, who had found the man in the road, performing excellent CPR.
"The man had sustained multiple injuries and ambulance staff quickly took over resuscitation efforts with help from police.
"Advanced life support continued at the roadside but sadly, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene."
The three-door silver grey Seat Ibiza has large black alloys and a black roof. Its registration number is LR08 BGE.
