Wolverhampton knife thug's sentence appeal rejected
A knife-weilding thug who broke into his former partner's home and viciously attacked her mother deserved every day of his punishment, top judges have said.
Marius Morkvicius, aged 30, of Riches Street, Whitmore Reans, failed in an attempt to get his prison sentence cut as he appeared at London's Appeal Court.
He was jailed for four years and three months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 21 last year.
He admitted aggravated burglary, assault by battery and having a knife.
Morkvicius was in a relationship with Milda Gedminati until February last year and they had a baby together, Mr Justice Cooke told the appeal court.
He was arrested after threatening her and a condition of his bail was to stay away from her and her home in Pendeford.
But on May 31 last year, when she returned home with her mother, Irena Gedminati, they noticed the kitchen window had been 'put through', said the judge.
Irena found Morkvicius asleep on the living room sofa. He 'appeared to be drunk and said he had a right to be there'.
The court heard he became aggressive and called Irena and her daughter 'tramps' before grabbing the older woman's hair and punching her.
Police found him on the lawn acting aggressively and shouting in Lithuanian. Morkvicius had a large knife hidden up his sleeve, with which he had cut the television screen 'a number of times'.
At Thursday's hearing, his lawyers today argued he was punished too harshly and should have been given more credit for his guilty pleas.
But Mr Justice Cooke said he could not see how Morkvicius 'could be entitled' to any greater reduction than he got.
The judge, who was sitting with Lady Justice Sharp and Judge Johannah Cutts QC, dismissed the appeal.
