The 32-year-old from Penkridge is now hanging up his trainers for a couple of weeks while he takes a well-earned break.

Although he has now set himself the target of hitting the 400 marathon mark in one year.

But for the time being he has been forced to take a rest from his mammoth fundraising drive after suffering a ligament injury.

Despite the set back, Mark powered through and completed his 100th marathon in Royal Parks, London on October 11.

He said: "No matter what I was dead certain I would reach my 100th marathon, there was no way I was not going to do it. I ended up actually doing 100 marathons in 97 days because I doubled up some days."

Mark's challenge will resume on November 2.

He said: "Some days I will have to double and even triple up to reach my target but my physio is happy for me to do that plus it prepares me for when I complete the challenge of Lands End to John O'Groats in April where I will be doing between 80 to 90 miles a day."

Mark's initial 2,340-mile challenge, which kicked off in July, came about so he could raise vital funds and awareness for Katharine House Hospice in Stafford and Tommy's, the baby charity that funds research into pregnancy problems and provides information to parents.

The driving force behind Mark's efforts is his wife Tammy, who has endured six miscarriages and has found the support from the Tommy's charity a huge help. The window cleaner said despite setting himself ambitious targets it isn't about the record breaking.

"For me it's all about the fundraising, that's why I'm doing this and the best way of getting people's attention is by doing it the way I'm doing it," he said.

Mark has also hit back at the critics who have scrutinised his method in marathon running, with some questioning whether he completes the marathons in one go or by taking breaks during the day.

He said: "I do it in one go, I don't take any large breaks because then that would just take ages.

"When I completed my 90th marathon in Chester in three hours and 24 minutes, that showed any doubters."
