Fire crews to rescue of horse stuck in silt by River Severn

[gallery] Firefighters rescued a horse that had nearly fallen into the River Severn and got stuck chest deep in silt this afternoon.

Crews were called out to help save the animal which had got into trouble off Northwood Lane in Bewdley.

They were alerted at 2.19pm and sent a fire engine from Bewdley, a water first responder team from Kidderminster and an animal rescue crew from Bromyard.

The horse was extricated from its predicament using the animal rescue equipment and a 4x4 belonging to the animal's owner.

Wyre Forest station commander Robert Sproat said the horse was stuck chest deep in silt just off the river bank.

Vets checked over the horse and it was deemed all right after the operation, which was completed by 4.20pm.
