More than 40 firefighters tackled a blaze which ripped through the Allens Centre in Hilton Road, Willenhall.

The fire caused damage to around 60 per cent of the building.

Part of the tiled pitch roof was destroyed during the blaze on August 13.

Plans have now been lodged with Walsall Council to pull the building down.

The planning application said: "The building had been disused for some time and had recently been broken into and set fire to.

"The building is now in a very dangerous position of not only disused but a health and safety risk also."

It said senior Walsall councillors were concerned that the building will attract further vandalism and even though there is a security presence it was vulnerable.

At the height of the blaze in August, 45 firefighters were at the scene with 12 in breathing apparatus.

It took several hours to bring the blaze under control.

The site was formerly the Allens Rough Primary which closed in 2003 and then used by social and inclusion staff.

The building was vacated in August last year when social care and inclusion staff relocated to the Civic Centre.
