Firms' bosses hit out over plans to build 900 homes in Coseley

Business bosses have objected to plans to build more than 900 homes on disused industrial land in Coseley – fearing there will be complaints from people who move into the properties.

Skelton Group Investments want to create the 925-home Coseley Park estate on three business parks.

But Biffa Waste Management and Chemviron Carbon, who border the site, have issued strong objections to the proposal.

They say future homeowners will complain about noise from their businesses.

The two companies both operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Concerns about traffic have also been raised by the firms and residents.

The developer said the housing would be far enough away from the businesses to mean noise would not be an issue and the scheme would improve local traffic routes.

In 2012, the same applicant submitted an application for 210 homes and a retail park and the plans were approved but no building work started.

A report from Biffa said: "We are disappointed that the number of houses proposed in the new application has risen from 210 to some 925 and the housing is now closer to our operation.

"We remain concerned that we will receive complaints regarding noise from local residents in the future."

Chemviron Carbon said: "By planning housing immediately next to an industrial site with 24/7 activity, the concern is the noise impact for the planned housing.

"The proposed planning will also have a significant impact on traffic and lead to further and more severe congestion."

Under the plans more than 60 acres of disused industrial land would be transformed.

The site is made up of the Newey Business Park, Bean Road Industrial Estate and Wellington Industrial Estate.

Skelton Group spokesman Abbas Raza said: "We have been talking to Biffa and Chemviron Carbon and Our application includes measures that will help prevent noise becoming an issue.

"We've also provided a well thought out road layout that will keep traffic moving and both businesses will benefit from improvements we'll make to Bean Road."
