The club, which was formed in 1887, has 130 junior members, who club officials say will benefit from an artificial wicket.

Rather than having to cancel training when the weather takes a turn for the worst, youngsters would be able to play on if an artificial wicket was installed.

Club treasurer Mick Bourne said: "We promote cricket in our area, as well as providing social and recreational activities for members and the local community.

"We have 130 junior members which are the future of cricket, this artificial wicket would enable the kids to practice in all weathers."

The club was a big winner in last years Cash For Your Community project, taking home £725, which went on to fund pitch covers.
