Newlife Foundation

Cannock-based Newlife Foundation works with families of children affected by disability - whether inborn or acquired through accident or illness - who struggle to get specialist equipment.

Its most in-demand function is to provide the equipment that statutory services cannot fund, with costs for items ranging from a few hundred pounds to around £20,000.

These include items like car seats for safer travel, beds for complex care needs, wheelchairs that enable children to go to school and communication aids which allow them to tell their parents they love them for disabled and terminally ill children.

The donor can also choose where they would like their money to be spent.

This equipment makes a huge difference – not only to the children but to their wider families who no longer have to feel helpless at their child's suffering.

Equipment often means more opportunities for children to integrate into their local community.

Its team of specialist trained nurses staff a national helpline, offering confidential information and practical support on a wide range of issues.

It has recently expanded its play therapy pods, which were launched in March 2011 to give families access to sensory toys and development aids for use at home.

There has been a 273 per cent increase in the number of play therapy pod loans during the last 12 months. It also runs a Just Can't Wait service, an emergency equipment loan service for families of end-of-life children, thought to be the only of its kind in the country.

In order to keep providing this equipment, Newlife needs to raise vital funds through projects such as the 'Cash for your community' prize fund.

Last year, the group were given £130 from the prize fund after members of the public collected 851 tokens for them.
