The Conservative MP said he goes for check-ups at Queen's Hospital in Burton every few months and he recently had moles removed which looked suspicious and could potentially turn cancerous.

He said: "I had a lump under my eyebrow. That was always down to come off."

He publicly disclosed his fight with skin cancer five months ago and said since then it had helped a voter in his constituency.

Mr Fabricant said: "A lady told me that her husband had a mark on his forehead and that she had read an article about my problems.

"She made him go to the doctor, who referred him, and he did have a malignant melanoma.

"It's important to get checked early. It justifies my decision to go public with it."

Mr Fabricant was initially found to be suffering from a malignant melanoma after spotting two moles on his stomach which were getting bigger.

This type of skin-cancer is potentially life-threatening as it can spread to other parts of the body and be difficult to treat.

But Mr Fabricant had surgery a week before the general election which has left him with a six-inch scar.

He has since had five more biopsies on his eye, leg, shoulder and abdomen.
