Petition to save Wolverhampton Goodyear plant passes 1,500
A petition to stop the closure of Wolverhampton's Goodyear plant has now passed its target of 1,500 signatures.
Former Wolves Star Mel Eves and singer Beverley Knight are among the people to sign the document on change.org.
Wayne Devaney, who works for the plant and has been helping to drum up support for the petition, said of the milestone: "It's tremendous and fantastic the support we have had. I can't thank everybody enough.
Wayne's wife Sharon added: "Its hard work but the numbers are still going up which we are obviously pleased about."
Created on change.org, the petition is a letter addressed to Prime Minister David Cameron asking him to stop the closure of the plant.
The factory, located on Bushbury Lane, is set to close in 2017 with the loss of 330 jobs.
The first redundancies are expected to come next month but workers are still holding out for good news after independent assessors were brought in to examine Goodyear's business case for shutting the site off Stafford Road.
The petition currently has 1,534 names and can be found by searching for 'Goodyear plant' on change.org.
