M6 junction 10 rebuilding work begins
Work to assess land needed to push ahead with £64m plans to rebuild the M6 junction 10 island and improve surrounding routes has started.
The bridges over the junction in Walsall are being earmarked to go from two to four lanes in a bid to ease congestion.
The M6 slip roads will be widened along with improvements to the Wolverhampton Road and Bloxwich Lane junction. There will also be some modification work to the Black Country Route.
In an update report, regeneration chief Councillor Adrian Andrew, said: "A major improvement to Junction 10 of the M6 is being developed in conjunction with Department for Transport and Highways England.
"Funding of £64m has been secured for this scheme though the Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership and Highways England together local tax payers money.
"An innovative governance model between the funding partners is being established to deliver the project. Preliminary design work and an assessment of the land required are currently being prepared."
