Historic non-league football club revamp agreed at Walsall Council planning meeting
The revamp of an historic non-league football club's new ground in Walsall has tonight been backed by councillors.
Permission for up to four stands for 200 fans at Darlaston Town (1874) was supported by Walsall Council planners.
The club was formed last year after the collapse of the 141-year-old Darlaston Town and now plays at Bentley Leisure Pavilion.
It is initially expected one stand will be built and others dependent on funding.
The aim is for it to be in place next March and cost an estimated £10,000. Funding from grants, sponsors and business donations are now being sought.
Chairman Neil Chambers said he was delighted with the planning consent.
There had been seven objections including extra traffic, noise, encourage youths to congregate and de-value properties.
Other proposals for the demolition of a petrol station and replacement 24 hour filling base were supported.
County Bridge Service Station in Wolverhampton Road West will now be revamped and lead to jobs, boosting staff levels from seven to 13.
Furthermore, St Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Bridle Lane, Streetly, will be allowed to increase opening hours.
They will go from 9am to 6pm to 7.30am to 10.30pm.
