Former Wolves star Geoff Thomas hits £700k fundraising mark

Former Wolves star Geoff Thomas has hit the £700,000 mark in his fundraising for Cure Leukaemia.

More than £3,000 was raised to help the ground-breaking work of Professor Charlie Craddock at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at a celebratory dinner in Bromsgrove.

Geoff and a team of 10 amateur riders completed the Tour de France route one day before the professionals, including two controversial days with disgraced drugs cheat Lance Armstrong. Fundraising has now reached £702,000.

Triathlete Helen Russell took part in Le Tour – One Day Ahead event with Geoff and organised the fundraising celebratory dinner.

The event was hosted by ITV4 commentator Ned Boutling.

Guests bid for items donated by Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster, Lance Armstrong and Halesowen's Olympic cyclist Jess Varnish.

More than 120 attended with £3,000 added to the fundraising total.

Miss Russell said: "The evening was a great success and Geoff and I are really grateful to everyone who came along."
