Sedgley's Seven Stars pub set to close
Eleventh hour talks with Marston's have ended in disappointment for campaigners fighting to save a much loved pub.
Bill Etheridge MEP - who has led the campaign to prevent the Seven Stars, in Sedgley, from being turned into a supermarket - met with Marston's boss Ralph Findlay yesterday.
The Sedgley councillor said Mr Findlay confirmed plans to replace the pub with a Morrisons store would go-ahead.
He said: "I will not give up on trying to save this pub until the doors close – if, indeed, they do.
"That the deal has been signed by Marston's is disappointing, yet it was very encouraging to hear Mr Findlay say that in any future sell-offs they would try and open up better lines of communication with the local communities affected.
"I would like to thank Mr Findlay for taking the time to speak with us."
Earlier this month up to 20 campaigners from the pub protested against the closure outside the brewers' offices in Wolverhampton.
Dudley Council's original decision was to reject the plans but an appeal by Morrisons was upheld by the Planning Inspectorate in July.
