Punchy Stourbridge ale flying off Aldi's shelves
A Stourbridge-brewed ale sold in Aldi stores across the Midlands has flown off the shelves - with more than 42,000 bottles sold since April.
'Boris Citrov' is a punchy 4.7 per cent marmalade golden ale, crafted by local fifth-generation family brewers, Sadler's Ales, and is named in homage to a fictional boxing champion Boris Citrianov.
Aldi shoppers have snapped up the pale golden brew, falling for its unique sweet flavour and crisp fruity finish, thanks to a distinct blend of American and English hops combined with buckets of real orange marmalade and orange peel.
Ian King, from Sadler's Brewery, said: "Our Boris Citrov marmalade ale is one of our most popular brews thanks to its zesty and refreshing flavour.
"We're absolutely thrilled to be quenching the thirst of Aldi shoppers in the Midlands; the ale has gone down a storm."
Boris lives on the Russian-Ukraine border and wears bright orange boxing gloves - a nod to the ale's citrusy flavour.
Following the knockout success of the ale, Aldi is planning to team up with Sadler's again in October 2015.
'Worcester Sorcerer' - a golden best bitter made from 100 per cent English hops sourced from local hop growing counties - will launch in time for Halloween.
Dan Hobson, UK buying director for beers and spirits at Aldi, said: "We constantly re-invigorate and refresh our ale range to give shoppers something new and exciting to enjoy.
"Personally, I'm a huge fan of Sadler's Ales and I firmly believe that they produce some of the best craft beer in the country; the roaring success of Boris Citrov comes as no surprise. At Aldi we buy exclusively for the UK and tailor our range to suit the UK palate; this has been a great opportunity to delve even deeper than that, bringing shoppers in the Midlands an exclusive local brew."
Boris Citrov is available in Aldi's Atherstone stores priced at £1.25, until stocks last.
