Woman in 70s seriously injured in Cradley Heath crash

An elderly woman suffered serious injuries when she was knocked down by a car as she cross the road in the Black Country.

West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in Cradley Heath about 3.45pm on Saturday.

The 70-year-old woman was crossing Corngreaves Road, where it meets Overend Road, when she was involved in a crash with a black VW Polo, a spokeswoman said.

Chris Kowalik, spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, said the woman had arm and leg fractures, and was briefly unconscious.

She was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham's serious trauma centre.
