The Baggies kick off their Premier League campaign against Manchester City at The Hawthorns tonight.

But officials say they want to wait to launch the fanzone at the club's first traditional Saturday afternoon game of the season.

It will be unveiled for the first time when the Baggies entertain Southampton in the league on September 12.

The supporters area will be complete with a big screen, stages for live performances and matchday displays.

Six concessions stands will be created, two licenced to sell alcohol and also a merchandise unit.

High street bakery Greggs is expected to lease part of the Hawthorns pub, once also a hotel, for a store.

Chief executive Mark Jenkins said: "All through the process we have wanted a 3pm, Saturday afternoon fixture for the FanZone's unveiling and the Southampton match gives us our first opportunity.

"It is timely. We are still putting the finishing touches to make the site safe while we hopefully reach an agreement on the renovated hotel.

"That is looking fantastic and will be a real centre-piece for the FanZone."
