Driver taken to hospital after Wednesbury bus stop smash
A driver was taken to hospital after his car left the road and smashed into a bus stop in Wednesbury.
Residents spoke of their shock in the aftermath of the accident, which blocked a busy road during the clean-up.
Emergency services attended the scene at around 5pm on Sunday in Manor House Road.
The driver, believed to be in his 40s and driving a silver Vauxhall Astra, was the only injured party involved.
He was treated for whiplash at the scene and taken to hospital. It is not yet known how serious his injuries are.
Police were at the scene until 9pm directing the clogged traffic while the bus stop was cleaned up.
A resident, who did not want to be named but who witnessed the accident, said: "I saw the car lose control coming around the corner and plough into the bus stop.
"Bystanders and neighbours ran out to try and help the driver who appeared to be injured and suffering from severe whiplash.
"How do we know next time there won't be people waiting a the bus stop and they won't become a fatality?"
Glass and debris were scattered across the road and the bus stop was left shattered to pieces.
Campaigners have previously called on police and council officials to cut speeding along Manor House Road and nearby Myvod Road, where there are a cluster of schools close by.
Motorists have been known to hit speeds double the 30 mph limit, according to campaigners who called on action to be taken.
