The state-of-the-art veterinary centre on St Matthews Road has replaced the charity's old site on Hagley Road West, Quinton.

The plush new hospital boasts a critical care ward, operating theatre and the latest diagnostic and surgical equipment.

PDSA's chairman, John Smith, said: "It is wonderful to be able to open practices that offer the latest equipment to enable us to provide the best possible care for lots of animals."

The build and equipment has been funded entirely by PDSA supporters and donations from members of the public. It has been called The Marian and Christina Ionescu Centre of Surgical Excellence following donations to the building costs and operating theatre.

The hospital's veterinary team and specially selected pet patients were also present at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

All staff from the Quinton site have relocated to the new premises. Ms Malin, from Midlands Today and BBC WM, said: "Maisy has been a very healthy dog for the past nine years, but we know how important it is for everyone to have access to affordable treatment and I'd like to say thank you to PDSA for every pet in the area that you are able to help."
