Firefighters closed off New Street in Quarry Bank after a domestic gas pipe was broken in the crash, at around 8.30am yesterday.
Police have launched an investigation after the driver fled the scene in the vehicle.
Brierly Hill crew commander David Owen of West Midlands Fire Service said: "The pipe had become dislodged and fractured. We put a cordon around to stop anyone walking past with a cigarette or anything that would ignite.
"Fortunately the gas was displacing quite well and we remained on scene until the gas engineers arrived to stop the leak and fix the pipe."
