The roof was cut from the car to allow the woman - who suffered head and facial injuries - to be freed from the smash at Junction 7 for Great Barr.

Three fire engines attended the scene of the smash which occurred shortly before 11.15am.

Chris Kowalik, a spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "One person was cut free from the car. Assessments at the scene found head and facial injuries that weren't life-threatening. The injuries were treated at the scene and the patient was taken to City Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

All lanes within Junction 7 have now reopened and delays are beginning to ease, although delays of more than an hour remain.

Normal traffic conditions are expected from 2.30pm.
