Former Wolverhampton Speedway rider deported

Former Wolverhampton Speedway rider Ty Proctor has been deported from the UK.

The talented Australian, who moved from Wolverhampton Wolves Speedway to Sheffield Tigers last season, had his application to review his visa refused due to not meeting renewal criteria based on his performance in the sport.

Having seen a serious neck injury derail his 2013 campaign, Proctor experienced a difficult start to the season but later showed glimpses of his old self with some encouraging performances.

Wolverhampton Wolves Speedway issued a statement describing Proctor's treatment by UK Visa Immigration as 'shameful'.

It reads: "The treatment of Ty Proctor by UKVI is shameful.

"Since he first arrived in the UK to race for Redcar he has held the necessary Visa as a professional speedway rider, immediately registering with HM Revenue and Customs and his behaviour has been exemplary.

"During the subsequent years as he joined Wolverhampton his visa has been renewed without question and each time he easily met the necessary renewal criteria and he has

spent enough time in the UK to qualify for a residence permit."

The club went on to say that historically there had previously been cases where discretion had been applied when renewing a riders visa, taking in to account serious injuries sustained.

Proctor's Twitter bio now reads: "Was a speedway rider, now a brickie's labourer."
