Now bosses are appealing for the owners of this stray donkey to come forward and return him home.

The donkey was seen walking along the B4176 in Himley on June 5 and taken in by a nearby garden centre.

They then got in touch with Billy Wilson from Tettenhall Horse Sanctuary in Perton who has now taken in the animal and is hopeful that the owners will claim him.

Mr Wilson, from the sanctuary on Jenny Walkers Lane, said: "I got called by the police who said that the donkey was straying on the Himley bypass and the lady at the garden centre had taken him in.

"I drove down to give them a hand, we have got lots of horses and ponies, so I said we will take him in and somebody will eventually claim him."

Mr Wilson said the donkey, which he believes is aged around three, has been a family pet.

"It's probably the nicest donkey I have ever met in my life," he said. "It is well handled and gentle. He is obviously somebody's pet."

The owners are urged to get in touch with Mr Wilson on 07932654861.
