Halesowen Carnival moved for first time in 30 years due to fears over heavy vehicles
The first Halesowen Carnival for almost 30 years is moving location due to concerns over heavy vehicles, organisers have announced.
Organisers say the move has cost them around £1,000 to re-print leaflets, banners and other signs for the event.
Huntingtree Park was due to host the event, which is returning following a community campaign, on July 4.
But council officials say pathways in the park would be unsuitable to hold vehicles moving equipment and stalls onto the parkland.
Instead now organisers have had to move the event to nearby Highfields Park and face a race against time to inform people of the changes.
Organising committee vice-chairman Councillor Stuart Henley said: "We are disappointed that the decision was made now.
"The council knew about the location for the event for a long time. It has always been held at Huntingtree Park."
Dudley councillor Khurshid Ahmed said: "We have recently been working with the organisers of the Halesowen Carnival to make sure the event is safe and fun for everyone.
"Organisers informed us of their plans to have very large vehicles enter Huntingtree Park as part of the event, but the pathways are not strong enough to support this type of activity.
"We have spoken to them and they understand the need to move to the more robust Highfields Park, just a few metres down the road.
"The change in venue will help ensure that the event is as successful as it promises to be."
