Paedophile jailed for a second time for child sex abuse
A former Stafford market trader who sexually abused a young boy more than 30 years ago has been jailed for 30 months.
The young boy was one of a string of victims indecently assaulted by Peter Edensor during the 1980s, Stafford Crown Court heard. In 2005 he was sent to prison for four-and-a half years for abusing a total of eight boys in similar circumstances.
They included Darren Street, aged 40, who has today spoken out of his pain at the hands of Edensor, now aged 69.
At the time of the case Edensor failed to own up to further offences previously committed against another young boy whom he abused over a three-year period from the age of 12.
This victim kept his suffering bottled up for decades - until he told his wife, said Mr Daniel Oscroft, prosecuting.
Edensor, from Stafford, but who's permanent address is unknown, admitted three charges of indecent assault.
Judge Mark Eades told him: "At the time these offences were committed, many people had little insight in to the effects on the victims.
"We are now much wiser, we now fully understand the long-term impact of such behaviour which can last a lifetime."
The judge said the abuse of this victim was part of "A whole series of offending by you against young boys in the 1980s."
Mr Oscroft said the victim had been doing some jobs for Edensor and the abuse took place in Edensor's house.
He said: "The victim did not confide in anyone for years until he told his wife about it and the police were contacted."
In a victim impact statement he described how he had tried to put what happened behind him, but it always came back to haunt him.
"He had been withdrawn and shy all his life and had resorted to self-harm."
The court heard that Edensor had initially denied abusing the victim, but pleaded guilty on the day of his trial earlier this year.
Mr Fred Powell, defending, said: "He had told the police there were people he had abused and he didn't know them all either by name or sight."
Edensor had been involved in doing work for the community, including raising money for the troops in Iraq, Mr Powell added.
Today, Mr Street has waived his right to anonymity to welcome the latest jail term, although he believes the sentence should have been longer.
He was the first to report Edensor to the police in 2003, prompting others to come forward.
Mr Street travelled from his home in the Isle of Wight to see his attacker sent down for a second time.
He said: "Peter Edensor destroyed my childhood. Everyone knew him but they did not know he was a sex monster.
"I sat in court on Monday and blubbed like a baby listening to the grooming history.
"It was very similar to my own and it opened up a wound.
"Justice was served again but the sentence was not long enough.
"In my eyes if someone is sentenced to 30 months then they should serve 30 months."
