JAILED: Barber gets prison after drugs found in car
A barber was caught with skunk and had an interest in a farm capable of producing £25,000 of cannabis, a judge was told.
The discovery came barely a month after Leroy Barclay had received a 16-week suspended jail sentence after being found with a lock knife in his car.
Police unearthed skunk cannabis in the footwell of his car when they stopped the vehicle at 9.50pm on September 1, said prosecutor Mr Howard Searle.
More skunk and cannabis leaf together with £320 cash were discovered during a search of his home before officers started checking another address he was known to have links with in Truro Close, Oldbury.
They found 16 cannabis plants, a similar number of saplings together with evidence of previous crops of the drug being grown at the property. The farm had a potential yield of anything between £6,500 to £25,000 if sold in street deals, said Mr Searle.
Father-of-one Barclay, who had previous convictions for possession of cannabis, admitted that he supplied plant food and supplements and would have received part of the crop as payment.
Mr Gurdeep Garcha, defending, said Barclay was struggling to cope with his wife's miscarriage at the time of the latest offences.
Barclay from Churchbridge, Oldbury pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply and being concerned in production of the drug on the basis that it was for personal use and for sale to friends.
He received 12 months behind bars for the two most recent offences and two months for the breach of the suspended jail sentence.
