Volunteering is key theme for new Wolverhampton mayor
The new mayor of Wolverhampton will make volunteering the key theme of his tenure.
Councillor Ian Brookfield was elected mayor of the city earlier this month.
Wolverhampton's 157th mayor has chosen the city's foodbanks and soup kitchens, the Kingswood Trust and Bilston Remembered as his three main charities to support.
Councillor Brookfield said: "It is an honour and a privilege to have been asked by my fellow councillors to take this important role for the next 12 months.
"This year I'll be looking to celebrate volunteering.
We are hugely fortunate to have more than 10,000 volunteers doing some fantastic work in our city – they never ask for any gratitude and I'd like to highlight their dedication.
"I'm also looking forward to raising awareness of, and vital funds for, my chosen charities and community organisations.
"I will be holding a series of fundraising events over the next 12 months, with all proceeds going to these nominated good causes and I'd urge the people of Wolverhampton to give them their full support so that, together, we can raise thousands of pounds for charity."
Money will also be raised for the physiotherapy department at West Park Rehabilitation Hospital and the Interfaith Network.
