Animal hospital hopes to reunite cat which had £2k surgery with owner

Staff at an animal hospital are desperate to reunite a cat with its owner after it was found wandering the streets in an awful condition.

The female tortoiseshell is thought to have been missing for a while as she was found with matted fur and ingrowing claws.

But it is hoped the cat's owner can be traced after it was discovered she had previously undergone extensive reconstructive surgery on its legs.

The moggy was found close to the Roseville Animal Hospital in Mason Street, Coseley two weeks ago.

A resident had noticed the cat in her garden and could see it was in a bad way.

Veterinary nurse Becky Cash said: "She had no microchip or collar. We had to sedate her to de-mat her, she was just one big solid mat.

"We took her for an x-ray and it showed she had quite extensive orthopaedic work on her back legs. It looks like somebody has spent a lot of money on her."

Becky estimates such work would have set the cat's owner back up to £2,000.

She said: "To have had orthopaedic work on both back legs she must have gone through trauma, she may have been hit by a car or have fallen off something."

The cat is thought to be around eight-years-old.

Becky said: "She has definitely been on the streets for a while. She had just been hanging around the garden for a couple of days and the woman hadn't seen her before, which was unusual because they normally stay close to where they live.

"Once she had built up trust with her she realised she was in a bad way.

"But all her mats have been clipped and we have cut her nails. We're spoiling her rotten."

Staff at the animal hospital are hopeful that the cat's distinctive features will increase the chances of her owner coming forward.

Becky said: "We are hoping that someone will recognise her. If she has been missing for a while her owner might have given up hope of finding her."
