Police: Please help family of brutal carjacking victim Reginald, aged 78
Police officers returned to the scene of a brutal car-jacking of a pensioner as they stepped up their appeal for witnesses.
Reginald Stocking was left with serious injuries in Chapel Street, West Bromwich, when he was mown down a week ago.
Officers returned to the scene last night and spoke to motorists and passers-by a swell as handing out flyers.
A police team also returned to Walter Street where the car was recovered.
Detectives are trying to find out what happened to the car in the period before it was recovered on Saturday.
Detective Inspector Pete Rowe said: "I need some more help with where that vehicle was for the six days.
"Who was driving it, where it was parked. I think it was probably in the local vicinity so someone, somewhere has seen that vehicle."
A car of similar model and colour, a blue Peugeot 207, was parked on the side of the road while officers also visited the nearby Halfway House pub to speak to customers who may recall anything last week.
Police are also looking for someone who may drive past at the same time each week or were on the bus to come forward.
Mr Rowe said: "It may be someone has set routine in the local area and were passing at that time. It is not for me, it is for the family, Reginald's family needs the public's help.
"It is plainly not right a 78-year-old man has sustained the injuries he has. There has been a good response but the role of the public remains important in getting further evidence."
Mr Stocking was left with a broken eye socket and chipped skull after the car-jacking on his driveway at around 9.20pm last Sunday.
West Midlands Police said he was opening the gate to his Chapel Street home when a man jumped behind the wheel of his car.
Mr Stocking fought valiantly to stop the thief but was struck by the car and shunted against a wall and now remains seriously ill in hospital.
Family spoke of their shock as it happened after he had dropped his wife Sylvia to the door and was parking up.
David Stocking, the couple's 47-year-old son, said: "Mum phoned me as soon as it happened and I drove round and saw him lying in the road lifeless.
"He's just spending his time sleeping and is hooked up on medication to ease the pain.
"You heard about things like this all the time on the news but you never expect it to happen to your elderly dad."
Detectives charged 34-year-old Andrew Jones, of Dingle Street, Oldbury, with wounding and robbery and he was appearing at Warley Magistrates Court today.
He was also charged with burglary relating to a break-in at Groveland Road, Dudley, shortly after the car-jacking, which took place at 9.20pm.
Jones, who is unemployed, was remanded in custody and was set to appear before magistrates this morning. Police have also charged 26-year-old Stacey Johnson, of Maria Street, West Bromwich, with handling stolen goods.
It is alleged she stored in her flat a TV taken during the subsequent burglary.
Det Sgt David Hughes said the investigation team were still keen to hear from any witnesses and that officers had gone back to Walter Street, where the car was found with a similar vehicle in 'the hope it may jog people's memories and secure information about who dumped the car.'
He added by handing out flyers in Chapel Street and talking to motorists and passers-by they were hoping to 'speak to someone who witnessed the robbery or was in the area at the time and can provide useful information.'
Anyone with information is urged to call Det Sgt Hughes at West Bromwich police station on the 101 number.
