It is believed that the motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, came off his bike just before 6.45pm at the junction of the Black Country Route and Vulcan Road.

The Black Country Route remained closed for over three hours at the Lunt island while collision investigators worked to establish the cause of the crash.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "It's not known what had happened, but when crews arrived, they found a male motorcyclist with numerous, serious injuries.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene."

Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We would like to hear from any witnesses that we have not already spoken to so that we can establish how this man has lost his life.

"In particular we would like to speak to another motorcyclist who stopped at the scene but left prior to police arrival. This person may hold key information which will help myself and the family piece together the events leading up to this tragedy.

"We are currently following up a number of enquiries and our thoughts remain with the man's family at this time."

Anyone with information should call the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 or anonymously Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
