Pictures and videos: Marking Albion legend Jeff Astle's 73rd
Gone but not forgotten - West Brom legend Jeff Astle would have turned 73 today, as the FA meet to discuss head injuries in football.
He would have been smiling down during his 72nd year if he had seen the accomplishments made on his behalf.
And the Hawthorns united as one in March for the first Jeff Astle Day, even after the Baggies lost 3-2 to Leicester City.
The current Baggies team were wearing replica kit from Astle's finest hour – the 1968 FA Cup final.
And the family of the late former striker officially launched the Jeff Astle Foundation in his name, 13 years after his death.
His daughter Dawn set up the foundation with her sisters and mother Laraine and will see their work start to bear fruit on Jeff's birthday.
An FA-assigned independent panel of medical experts will first meet up to advise the governing body on head injuries and concussion today.
He died in 2002 after suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), which tests showed was caused by heading the ball.
The panel is led by eminent neurosurgeon Peter Hamlyn and including neuropathologist Dr William Stewart, who re-examined Astle's brain and diagnosed CTE.
