Police want to trace the man who stopped the assault on the 15-year-old girl who was walking along Darlaston Lane when she was approached by a man driving a small black hatchback car.

The man made some lewd comments towards her before getting out of the vehicle, grabbing her wrist and touching her inappropriately.

Another car then pulled up and an unidentified man grabbed the girl's attacker by the shoulders, allowing the teen to run off.

The man who intervened is described as white, in his 30s, of a muscular build and was wearing a shirt, tie and jeans.

The offender was a white man in his early 20s, around 5ft 10ins tall with piercings on his bottom lip and either side of his mouth.

He had a beard, large sideburns and he was wearing a black baseball cap, black Puma hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and red trainers.

Detective Constable Samantha Walker said: "We understand parents and carers will be concerned by what's happened but I would like to reassure people we are doing all we can to identify the man responsible.

"At this stage, this appears to be a one-off and there are no similar reports from the area.

"We're keen to speak to the man who stopped to help the girl as he could hold key information which may help us trace the offender.

"I would urge him to call us along with anyone else who may know the identity of the offender from the description given."

The assault happened at around 12.30pm on April 9.

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
