The crash happened in Bushbury Road, Heath Town.

It is thought the boy was crossing the road near the One Stop store when he was hit.

Witnesses described seeing a small articulated lorry with blue curtains, which did not stop at the scene.

However it is possible the driver was not aware he hit the boy, police said.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Sarah Buxton said: "We have appealed for the driver of the truck to come forward and as yet, he has not made contact with us.

"It is possible he is unaware he was even involved in a collision, but we urgently need to speak to him to establish what happened.

"In the meantime, our inquiries into the collision continue and we will be examining CCTV from the area to see if any further clues on the identity of the driver can be found."

The boy was taken to hospital after the crash on Wednesday. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
