Jeremy Hunt: Tories will bring back 24 hour A&E to Stafford 'as soon as clinically safe'

Health secretary Jeremy Hunt visited Stafford yesterday and made promises to bring back a 24/7 A&E service to Stafford 'as soon as it is clinically safe' if the Tories are returned to power at the General Election.

Services through the night were removed from County Hospital in 2011.

But during a brief visit to the town Tory Party HQ in Castle Street, Mr Hunt said: "I would only ever agree to something that is clinically safe, however, it is the ambition of a future Conservative Government to bring back 24 hour A&E.

"That is my commitment to the people of Stafford."

The pledge was welcomed by Jeremy Lefroy, who is defending his seat in Stafford, but has been met with anger by Support Stafford Hospital campaigners.
