Yaser Martini and his wife Vicki were in Birmingham meeting with people who had helped raise the profile of the need of stem cell donors.

The couple's daughter Margot, aged two, died last year from two rare forms of blood cancer after a year-long search for a donor.

A donor from Germany was found but the leukaemia returned.

Speaking at the opening of La Tasca in the Barclaycard Arena, Mr Martini said: "I never expected this to affect me or my family. You never know when cancer is going to strike. I would like to thank everyone for their support during Margot's illness and since her death.

"We can't believe the support we have had from around the country."

Mrs Martini is originally from Essington and has family in Wolverhampton.

Supports from Wednesbury were at the event which was hosted by La Tasca chief executive Simon Wilkinson.
