The silver cab collided with the bike in Springfield Lane, Rowley Regis shortly before 5am on Saturday.

The taxi was believed to have been pulling out of Ambell Close when it hit the bike as it travelled down Springfield Lane from the junction with the B1471 Dudley Road.

Nearby residents described hearing bang at the time of the incident.

Sergeant Dean Booth, from Sandwell Police, said: "Having spoken to a few witnesses so far, we believe the car was a silver Vauxhall Vectra or Ford Mondeo and was bearing private hire plates.

"The car will have had front end damage as a result of what happened and so someone must know where it is, or may have been asked to do repairs.

"We urge those people to come forward."

Anyone with information in relation to the incident should phone Sandwell Police on 101.
