The 2015 Grand National was this afternoon won by Many Clouds, with Midlands horse Saint Are pipped to the winning post.

Owned by David Fox, from Cheslyn Hay, nine-year-old Saint Are, was tipped at 33/1 to take first place in today's race at Aintree but finished second.

Third place went to Monbeg Dude, Alvarado took fourth place and Shutthefrontdoor came fifth, as thousands packed the terraces and millions more placed bets.

Mr Fox, Chairman of electronics company Powerpanels, was optimistic ahead of the biggest race of the year, saying his horse was in a 'peak condition'.

It wasn't Saint Are's first Grand National race, having raced in 2013 and finishing nine places behind winner Auroras Encore.

Despite a game effort from Saint Are in the home straight, 2015 wasn't to be his winning year either and Leighton Aspell rode Many Clouds to victory and in doing so became the first jockey to win back-to-back Grand Nationals since Brian Fletcher on Red Rum in 1974.

Unioniste, owned by Cosford-based businessman John Hales didn't finish the race.
