Police renew appeal after teen, 15, killed in Black Country hit and run
Police have renewed an appeal for information to help trace the driver of a blue Volkswagen Bora involved in a collision that killed a Black Country teen.
Adam Jones, aged 15, from Wednesbury, was killed when he was hit by the car as he crossed the junction of Beacon View Road and Walsall Road in West Bromwich on his bike just after 7.30pm on March 26.
He was flung through the windscreen of the car and pronounced dead a short time later.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and ran away without calling for assistance for Adam.
Now the police have released distinctive photos of the car showing some of the stickers on the rear windscreen.
Family and friends of the teenager have set up an online memorial fund in his memory, which has received £1,700 in donations, surpassing the £1,000 target.
Hundreds of friends have also posted tribute comments on an appeal set up on Twitter #justice4adamjones.
West Bromwich Albion has lent its support to the appeal as well after learning the keen horse rider was a fan of the Premier League side.
Albion 'keeper Ben Foster will feature in a video to be shown at half time in the Baggies' home match against QPR this Saturday appealing for help to trace the driver before showing the photos of the car stickers.
Insp Paul Bennett, head of the force's collision investigation unit, said: "We have been overwhelmed with the response to our appeal and I would like to thank everyone who has contacted us, although I would still urge anyone who has information, no matter how small they think it is to contact us. Every piece of information is vital in an enquiry as thorough as this.
"We are continuing to sift through all the information we have as well as conducting a detailed examination of the car which includes a full forensic examination and any evidence will be fast-tracked."
The car, with the registration number MA52 XVV, displayed stickers on the rear windscreen, which could be deemed offensive, but will have made the vehicle more distinctive.
Meanwhile specially trained officers are continuing to liaise with Adam's family at this difficult time.
Insp Bennett added: "Our thoughts remain with Adam's family and we are determined to find the person responsible for his death to help them come to terms with their loss.
"I would appeal to the driver of the car directly to contact us."
Anyone with information should call the collision investigation unit on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
