They usually queue up at the Stan Cullis Stand in anticipation to see Wolves take to the field but the queues were for a completely different reason on this occasion.

This was because hundreds of jobs were on offer at the Wolverhampton Jobs Fair, organised by Wolverhampton City Council, which saw more than 30 firms host stands looking for potential future employees to shine at the first hurdle.

The packed event saw West Midlands Police, the British Army, the Royal Navy, McDonalds and many more were manning stands.

One of the many people there looking for work was Dan Parsons from Warstones Drive, Wolverhampton. The 22-year-old said: "I've been unemployed for the past few months so it's great to have an event like this.

"It's great because you meet the companies face to face and get an insight into what they are looking for rather than seeing it in black and white."

Naomi Bishop, 20, from Compton, said: "I work in House of Fraser in Birmingham but I've come here because I want a change in career. It's great to see lots of employers here and because there are so many it gives you options to think about."

Wolverhampton City Council's regeneration chief Councillor Peter Bilson said the jobs fair supported a long-term plan to re-invigorate Wolverhampton.

He said: "We have a long term plan to encourage enterprise, empower people, reinvigorate our city and improve the prosperity of businesses and residents and this event supports that. We're ambitious and optimistic about the future of the city. It is a great place to live, work, visit and do business."
