Wolverhampton man caught after advertising knuckle dusters on Facebook
A man advertised knuckle dusters he had attempted to smuggle into the UK on Facebook in an attempt to sell them, a court heard.
Jamie Doy, aged 20, from Marsh Lane, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, caught the attention of the UK Border Agency after they intercepted the packages addressed to his home which were disguised as mobile phones.
Doy had been trying to sell the knuckle dusters through his personal Facebook account.
The Border Agency intercepted two packages he had tried to smuggle the weapons in, one containing 10 and the other 13. He had also tried to bring Tazers into the country.
Doy pleaded guilty to possessing offensive weapons for the purpose of sale and two counts of importing illegal goods at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court.
Mr Roger Blezzard, prosecuting, said: "The defendant has imported illegal items and then tried to sell them through Facebook.
"The UK Border Agency have intercepted two packages and informed police.
"The sale of these items through social media is indicative of the way the criminal world gets its hardware in this day and age."
Doy's case was adjourned until April 2 for a pre-sentence report.
