Two surgical assessment wards and one of the trauma and orthopaedics wards have bays closed after patients showed symptoms.

Chiefs at the Wednesfield hospital said no patients were seriously unwell.

Staff have also contracted the bug and will not be allowed back to work until they have been symptom-free for 48 hours.

Visiting restrictions are in place and people are asked not to visit the hospital if they have symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting.

Dr Mike Cooper, director of infection prevention and control, said: "We hope that the early detection and our actions will prevent spread to other wards.

"Scrupulous hand hygiene by all staff and visitors and a high level of environmental cleanliness are the essential measures for controlling this bug."

The hospital has endured two Norovirus outbreaks since last August.

The second lasted for two months with the hospital giving the all-clear just before Christmas.
