Caught on camera: Police snare suspected burglar after high-speed chase
This is the moment a suspected burglar was snared by police after a high-speed chase through the Black Country and South Staffordshire ended with a head-on smash in a residential street.
The drama unfolded at around 10am on Monday when police attempted to stop a silver 4x4 on Stourbridge Road in Wombourne.
Officers suspected the car had been stolen, but when they pulled alongside the vehicle, it sped off and took officers on a five-mile chase at high speed.
The pursuit came to an end around 15 minutes later in Whitegates Road, Coseley, when the 4x4 smashed head-on into an unmarked Audi police car.
It was penned in by another unmarked police car - this time a BMW - which sustained damage to its front end during the incident.
A total of four police cars were involved in the chase. Police say that no one was seriously injured in the incident.
Two men, aged 35 and 40, were arrested on suspicion of committing a burglary in Staffordshire.
The pair have been bailed pending further inquiries.
West Midlands Police spokesman Peter Edney said the offence was now being dealt with by Staffordshire Police.
These dramatic images of the conclusion of the chase were taken by a resident who reached for his camera when he heard the sound of screeching tyres outside his home.
